Billet Aluminum Valve Cover for 2003-2005 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 5.9L Diesel | SPELAB
---tab Description---
Description
For the 2003-2005 5.9L Cummins owner, the engine is a badge of honor. But let's face it: the factory cast valve cover—after 20 years of service—is likely corroded, peeling, and leaking oil onto your cylinder head. Worse yet, the factory breather system is messy, coating your engine and chassis in oily residue.
The SPELAB Billet Upgrade isn't just a replacement; it's a transformation. Precision-machined from a solid block of T6061 Aluminum, this valve cover turns the top of your engine into a centerpiece while solving the notorious crankcase ventilation issues of the 5.9L Common Rail.
Why Make the Switch?
-
From "Old" to "Show-Stopper": Replace that tired, oxidized factory cover with CNC-machined perfection. Whether you pop the hood at a truck meet or the dyno, the finish on this cover speaks for itself.
-
Superior Oil Control: We ditched the messy factory breather for a Top-Mounted Baffled Box. This integrated chamber separates oil vapor from the air effectively, keeping your engine bay cleaner and reducing internal pressure.
-
Leak-Proof Engineering: The #1 complaint with stock covers is leaking gaskets. Our cover features a redesigned, deep-channel gasket groove that ensures the seal stays perfectly seated and compressed, even under high boost and heat.
Fitments
-
2003-2005 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 5.9L Diesel
Key Features
-
Integrated Baffled CCV System
Located directly on top, our high-volume breather box uses an internal baffle plate to trap oil droplets before they exit. This keeps your engine pressure balanced without the mess. -
T6061 CNC Billet Construction
Unlike cast aluminum replicas that can be porous or brittle, our cover is machined from aircraft-grade billet. It offers superior flatness for sealing and allows for excellent clearance for aftermarket head studs. -
Performance Breather Setup
Features a high-flow open outlet port. We intentionally designed this for versatility—allowing you to run a simple draft tube to the axle or connect it to a high-performance Oil Catch Can system. -
Deep-Groove Gasket Seating
Installing a valve cover near the tight firewall on a Ram is frustrating. Our deep-groove design holds the gasket tightly in place, preventing it from slipping or pinching while you maneuver the cover under the cowl. -
Show-Ready Aesthetics
Available in anodized finishes that resist fading and corrosion. It cleans up the engine bay by removing the clutter of the factory vanity cover mounting points.
Specifications
| Material | CNC Billet Aluminum (T6061) |
| Finish | Anodized (Black / Red / Silver) |
| Weight | 6.18 kg |
| Installation Location | Cylinder head (valve cover position) |
| Fitment | OEM bolt-on design |
Installation Pro-Tips
-
The "Hidden" Drain Bolt
Before ripping out the old cover, locate the factory breather drain tube bolt near the starter motor. It's hard to see! You will need a long extension to remove it. -
Cap the Drain Port
Once the factory drain tube is removed, you will have an open port on the engine block/oil pan side. You MUST cap this off (a simple 3/4" rubber cap and hose clamp works perfectly) to prevent massive oil leaks. -
Firewall Clearance
The #6 injector area (back of the engine) is tight. Take your time sliding the billet cover in to avoid damaging the injector wiring harness integrated into the gasket. -
Torque Specs
Tighten bolts to 18 ft-lbs (24 Nm). Do not over-torque, as billet aluminum is strong but the cylinder head threads are delicate.

FAQs
Q: Why doesn't this kit include a breather hose?
A: Because 5.9L builds vary wildly. Some owners want a short line to a catch can, others want a 10-foot draft tube routed to the rear axle to keep fumes away from the cab. We provide the universal outlet so you can buy the exact length and style (braided, rubber, silicone) for your specific build.
Q: Does this cover fit with ARP Head Studs?
A: Yes, the internal clearance is designed to accommodate factory bolts and most aftermarket head studs, including ARP 2000 and 625 series.
Q: Do I need to reuse my old gasket?
A: No! We include a brand new, high-performance rubber gasket designed specifically for our deep-groove rail.
Q: How does the CCV baffle work?
A: It separates oil vapor from crankcase gases before venting, preventing excessive oil mist from entering the intake system.
Q: Does the anodized finish resist corrosion?
A: Yes. The anodized surface provides strong protection against corrosion and wear.
Q: Will this fit other Cummins engines?
A: No. It is specifically designed for the 2003–2005 5.9L Cummins.
